Uzavas Alus

One of the smallest breweries in Latvia is also one of the best.

Each fermentation process till bottling this live beer takes one month. The brewery tries as much as they can to keep things traditional in the process, which includes no filtration or pasteurization at all. The water that gives Uþavas Alus one of its distinctive tastes is from the 80 meter deep well on the property. On stormy nights out on the nearby sea, amber is stirred up which has been deposited for many thousands of years and in the morning is deposited on the beach for the lucky beach-comber to find. If you don’t have the patience for this, try the Uþavas light, which is the color of light amber or the dark, which is more orange in color. Both are a true find for the beer lover. Stop in at the brewery for a taste of beer, but calling first is recommended. Call: 371 6363 06 32. Also of note is the Uþavas Bâka (lighthouse) that was built in 1879. If you plan to stay the night in the area, try the nearby village of Jurkalne.
