LabritBy Editor. 07.07.2009“Labrît” (good morning) is made at the Livi dairy and is a hand-made cheese made from local goats’ milk. Goats’ milk itself is very healthy, and is recommended for people with asthma, tuberculosis, gastric, liver or skin problems, as it helps to fortify various bodily systems. Some Latvian specialists have calculated that those tending 2 goats and 5 beehives, and who use the products, will live to 100. The goat cheese comes in the form of small white balls, smaller than a ping-pong ball, and will make any dish suddenly have a third dimension to it. Unlike regular feta cheese, Labrit cheese has garlic added for a rich flavor and kick. We don’t know if this is the best way to start your morning, but the goat cheese sure tastes delicious. If you are interested to see how the whole production is done from the milk to the making of the cheese call ahead to reserve a time for a factory and farm tour. You must provide you own translator though.
